Seeking asylum

On Behalf of | Oct 6, 2016 | Asylum |

Some people flee their homelands and head to California so that they can be protected from potential harms that they face in their home countries. Foreign nationals who are in danger because of their religion, membership in a specific group, their race, nationality or political beliefs may be able to receive asylum to live in the United States. If you have fled your home country because of persecution, you may apply for asylum to remain in the U.S.

You may apply for asylum if you are already in the country or from outside if you are seeking entry. If your petition for asylum is approved, you are later eligible to apply for status as a permanent resident. You must start the process within one year of your entry into the country, and it is highly important that you follow the procedure exactly.

If you miss the filing deadline or complete the paperwork incorrectly, your application is likely to be denied. It is important for you to act quickly so that you are not sent back to your home country. If you believe that your life or the life of someone else is in danger if returned to your country, asylum may be an option for protection from harm.

At our firm, we understand how much might be at stake for our clients who are seeking asylum. We work hard for our clients to help them gather their needed evidence so that their asylum applications are fully supported. If an application is denied, we then request a reconsideration of the decision, submitting additional documents and other evidence as needed. If you have questions about petitioning for asylum, you may want to read the information that we have presented on our page on the topic.
